Overview
A popular and fun place for an after work drink in an otherwise soulless area of midtown.
History
Two avenues west, then last call
Pat and Eileen Hughes took over a blue-collar, shot-and-a-beer bar on Eighth Avenue in 1991 and renamed it Scruffy Duffy's1. When we listed it, we called it a popular, fun place for an after-work drink in an otherwise soulless area of midtown.
In 2012 its address turned up in the real-estate pages as one of five parcels on the west side of Eighth Avenue between 46th and 47th Streets, 743 to 7632. Since March 2016 that stretch of Eighth Avenue has been home to the Riu Plaza New York Times Square, a 647-room hotel at 46th Street3, 4.
The name came back in 2019, two avenues west at 639 Tenth Avenue1. In October 2026 the bar announced that November 29 would be its last call there1.
