History
Moved twice, never far
Kurumazushi takes its name from the restaurant in Tokyo that first taught its founder, Mr. Uezu, the trade1. He left Takesushi in 1977 to open it at 48th Street and Madison Avenue, as head chef and part owner1.
It didn't stay put. In 1984 it moved to 56th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, and in 1996 to 47th Street between Fifth and Madison, nearly back where it started1.
It's still there, on the second floor of 7 East 47th Street, serving lunch from noon to 2 and dinner from 5 to 92. It closes on weekends and major holidays, a schedule any Midtown office would recognize2.
