History

Glory days, then one for the road

If you've seen Bruce Springsteen's "Glory Days" video, you've seen Maxwell's: the venue was its set in 19851. After more than three decades in business, the indie club closed in 20132.

New owners reopened Maxwell's at 1039 Washington Street in 2014, as a restaurant and performance venue2. That version called it quits in early 2018, with a final show titled, fittingly, "One for the Road", set for February 101, 3.

In October 2019 the group behind Hoboken's Sorellina Italian Kitchen announced it would run a new restaurant there1. Today 1039 Washington Street is listed by Sirenetta, and by Backstage, which has its entrance around the side on 11th Street4, 5.
