At Farrell's the beer came by the quart: in 2019, when the bar had a reputation for the best and coldest beer in town, Mike O'Donnell had been filling 32-ounce cups for 23 years1. When we listed it, we noted that the cups were giant and styrofoam.
It opened at 215 Prospect Park West in 1933, the year Prohibition ended2. In 1965 it was Eddie Farrell's bar3, and Danny Mills, Timmy Horan and Jimmy Houlihan would eventually buy it3. Houlihan, bartender and owner, who went by Hoolie, died in 20224.
In 2026 NY1 called Farrell's more than a neighborhood watering hole: a community institution4. It's still at 215 Prospect Park West5, pouring from noon to midnight at the start of the week5, ninety-three years after it opened2.
Researched October 2026.
