Overview

When you’re on the outside looking in, Lillie’s appears enchanting, out of another age. But once you step inside, the illusion is immediately shattered by the flat-screen televisions, the sub-standard sound system, and the shouting crowd attempting to be heard over it.
When you’re on the outside looking in, Lillie’s appears enchanting, out of another age. But once you step inside, the illusion is immediately shattered (courtesy the flat-screen televisions, the sub-standard sound system, and the shouting crowd attempting to be heard over it). The service is as disappointing as the vibe, and the Irish/American/Asian/Mexican menu is all over the place – but not all is lost. They have a broad, international selection of beer, and several more-than-satisfactory wines. &mdash Sacha Phillip

History

Out of another age, from the sidewalk

Lillie's is still at 13 East 17th Street, and its locations page also lists one at 249 West 49th Street1. We once wrote that from the sidewalk it looked enchanting, out of another age, and that the flat-screen televisions inside broke the spell. Its locations page now advertises a Halloween circus theme, which suggests the spell has gone seasonal1.
