Candles, Christmas lights and a Williamsburg generator
In 2008, Eater reported, the plan was to reopen the space as Brooklyn Ice House1. By the time we listed it, it had replaced Pioneer BBQ with the same good food, the same neighborhood crowd and considerably less smell.
On October 29, 2012, Red Hook was devastated, the Ice House included2. A group called Restore Red Hook, dedicated to helping local businesses get back up and running, sent 20 volunteers over2. By November 4 the bar was up and running again, lit by candles and Christmas lights powered by a generator that owner Trevor Budd had procured in Williamsburg2.
It's still at 318 Van Brunt Street3, open daily from noon to 4am3. Time Out calls the food shockingly good and the bar Red Hook in microcosm3.
