History
No sign, but you can't miss the tile
Kathryn Weatherup gave the bar her name, more or less, but it had no sign1, 2. Matthew Maddy built it in a former storefront church as a jewel box, with a white tile ceiling, a brass bar and a white tile front that reminded the Village Voice of an operating room2, 3, 4. Sasha Petraske of Milk & Honey consulted on the drinks and trained the staff, and the place was heralded as the borough's first true craft cocktail bar3, 4, 5. A Tribeca sibling followed late in 2010, and the original still pours at 589 Vanderbilt Avenue5, 6.
