Overview
This dismal lounge above the tourist trap Café Bari was promoted as a secret celeb hangout, with a hush-hush inside scoops planted at Gawker and the NY Post. Have pity on the poor saps who made the trek here from Jersey.
Café Bari, famed for leaving its food on display outside to rot in the summer heat with the hope of lure in tourists, has opened a "secret A-List celebrity lounge" upstairs. The space's promoter slipped a story to the NY Post and Gawker pretending to be a waiter breaking the secret of a celeb hangout. Gullibe scenesters from Jersey to Long Island took the bait and mobbed the dismal place. For the moment, however briefly it lasts, Upstairs is an extremely successful asshole magnet. It keeps the punters occupied who might otherwise be ruining some place far more interesting.
