Half Pint

Greenwich Village, Manhattan

Still pouring

Overview

Beer lovers tend to fall into two groups connousiers and frat boys. The beer selection here is excellent (including cask conditioned ale), but thanks to an NYU location and giant beer towers for the tables the crowd leans far into backward baseball cap land.

History

Before the beer towers, a three-ring circus

Long before the beer towers, 76 West 3rd Street was home to Ernie's 3 Ring Circus, from the 1940s into the '60s1. The music hall singer and male impersonator Ella Shields played there in April 1943, according to The Billboard1. The Half Pint opened at the same address in June 2007, and it's still there2. It remembers its predecessor with Ernie's at The Half Pint, billed as an ode to the old place1.
