Overview

A busy bar attached to an attractive restaurant draws a crowd of good looking couples gay and straight. In keeping with local custom the music is Madonna and Britney heavy and a pint of Guinness will run you $7.

History

Twenty-five years on Seventh, then a sale

Elmo began service in 2001 and spent 25 years at 156 Seventh Avenue1, 2. We noted at the time a busy bar, a soundtrack heavy on Madonna and Britney and a seven-dollar pint of Guinness, a price that now reads like nostalgia. Then the building was sold1, and one of Chelsea's most cherished restaurants served its last meal on Friday, March 13, 20261. By May the building and its neighbor, between West 19th and West 20th Streets, were both vacant2.
