History
Cheap pitchers, huge fishbowls
Brother Jimmy's was the barbecue joint known for cheap pitchers of beer and huge fishbowl drinks, a combination that never needed a third selling point1. James Goldman opened the first one on the Upper East Side, and the name spread from there2.
The Bait Shack on Third Avenue closed in May 2012, after more than a decade at that address1. That October the Third Avenue Ale House was announced for 1644 Third Avenue, and it's still there, on the corner of 92nd Street3, 4.
The chain held out elsewhere for another ten years1, 2. The last Brother Jimmy's in New York City, at Lexington and 31st Street, appears to have closed for good on April 4, 2022, more than 30 years after the first2.
