Before it was Trinity, the space at 229 East 84th Street had been a bar since the 1930s, mostly run by German and Hungarian immigrants1, 2. It was Schubert Hall in the 1940s and '50s and a firefighters' bar called Sidestreets in the '70s and '80s1, and it has been Trinity Pub since 19952. When we listed it, anyone who brought thirty friends on a Thursday night could guest bartend, drink for free and keep half the tip jar. It's still pouring3; in July 2026 a reviewer called its pour "a sleeping giant of a pint" and the staff spot on4.
Researched October 2026.
