The New Yorker wrote that Spirit, due to open at 530 West 27th Street at the end of November 2003, was "putting a New Age face on club life"1. The week, as we listed it, ran Latin on Thursdays, Hunk-O-Mania on Fridays and Saturdays, which we called the city's number one bachelorette destination, and a gay night on Sundays.
By January 2007 the club had been closed by court order, the result of the police department's nuisance-abatement litigation2. Our listing outlived it, still sending bachelorette parties to Hunk-O-Mania on weekends.
In 2026 the local community board wrote to the State Liquor Authority about the address3.
Researched October 2026.
