History

A world away, then just across the street

We wrote that McKenna's Pub was only blocks from the Meatpacking District but a world away: drinks were two for one from noon to nine every day of the week, and a burger cost five dollars.

In 2007 the bar was being displaced from 245 West 14th Street and was set to move across the street to 250 West 14th1. Community Board 2 voted to recommend denying the move of its liquor license1.

McKenna's made it across the street all the same2. Its old address now belongs to Village Green West, a 12-story, 27-unit condo finished in 2016, with retail on the ground floor3.

By May 2026 McKenna's was gone from the new spot too: Shane MacGowan's Pub had been announced for 250 West 14th Street2.
