Overview

Bi-level dive bar draws students and neighborhood locals with its 16 taps, high tops, and dank basement pool table.

History

A 60-year intermission ends in the basement

Café Bohemia closed its doors as a jazz club in 19601. By the late 1960s the address had become a popular hangout for the lesbian community1.

The Barrow Street Ale House has occupied 15 Barrow Street since 1990, as a craft beer bar, full-service sports bar and restaurant1. When we listed it, it was a bi-level dive drawing students and neighborhood locals with sixteen taps, high tops and a dank basement pool table.

Then, on October 17, 2019, after a 60-year hiatus, Café Bohemia was relaunched as a live music venue in the Ale House's basement1. Not bad for a room we'd last described as dank.

The ale house is still at 15 Barrow Street2, and it's taking online reservations2.
