Overview

A shoebox sized douchebag sink carefully designed to absorb the star-fuckers, B-listers, and iBankers from the good bars in the neighborhood and relieve them of their money and dignity. Find the only book store with a bouncer and you're there.

History

The only bookstore with a bouncer

The Eldridge hid behind a fake bookstore front1. Inside were Chesterfield banquettes and cocktails by Charlotte Voisey of the Hideaway, at an average of $201. Our listing gave directions: find the only bookstore with a bouncer, and you're there.

Its owner was the nightlife impresario Matt Levine2, 3. In July 2008 he planned movie-and-popcorn nights on Mondays for the thirteen-table room2.

In 2011 Levine sold The Eldridge to take over the Mason Dixon space on Essex Street, which became Sons of Essex4. By May new owners, Matt Dino and Sean Hughes, had completely reinvented the room in less than six weeks5. By December yet another new bar had debuted at 247 Eldridge6.

Today the address belongs to San Antonios, a Latin bar with drinks and dancing7, 8.
