History

Twenty-five taps in the hinterland

Sunswick 35/35 was established under new ownership in late 2005 on the corner of 35th Avenue and 35th Street, and with it Juan Cruz brought craft beer to an Astoria that was then, in the bar's own words, a hinterland for quality guzzling1. In 2009 we noted its 25 craft taps, which set it apart from nearly every bar in Queens; it still advertises 25, plus a full kitchen until 3:30 in the morning, Monday through Friday1. In February 2026 Sunswick 35/35 Corp filed a voluntary Chapter 11 case2. A listing updated that September still has it open Mondays from noon to 4 in the morning3.
