History

Dad tended bar; the detective opened one

Brady opened the bar in 1998, after a career as an NYPD detective, and in doing so fulfilled a dream of his late father Patrick, an Irish immigrant and lifelong bartender1. It took the place of a vacant storefront on Philip Avenue that had attracted teenage loiterers2.

It took a hit during COVID-19 but stayed afloat2. Twenty-eight years on, Brady and his wife Majella are still at it, on the corner of Philip and Vincent avenues in Throggs Neck1.
