History

From the tugboat trade to turnkey

Charles W. Kuhl Jr. established Kuhl's Tavern in 1954¹. The family-run business once catered to the tugboat and blue-collar workers who roamed Bayonne's streets¹. In July 2026 it went up for sale, the tavern and its mixed-use building together, the business billed as an established, turnkey, family-owned restaurant and tavern². Seventy-two years in, established rather undersells it^{1, 2}.
