A luthier's woodshop, retuned for conversation
Before it was a bar, the room was luthier H.L. Wild's woodshop1. Brendan O'Reilly, an Irish immigrant, left a long-time bartending gig at the venerable Ear Inn to open his own place there in 19971.
We called it a relaxed Irish bar with a fine pint of Guinness, always quiet enough for a conversation with friends. One day in 2004 the conversation was Jason Isbell talking to Justin Townes Earle, both of them living on 11th Street at the time1.
In 2018 three former bartenders, Dan Sweeney and the married couple Diarmuid and Meghan Joye, acquired the bar, and with it what Village Preservation called a strong foundation1. In 2026 Village Preservation honored it as one of that year's Village Awardees1.
