History
Okay, enough politeness
Walter's own website once called the place "like a home," its people "like family," then dropped the act: "Okay, enough politeness, WE ARE A PLACE TO GET DRUNK!!!"1. The bar, on Eighth Avenue between 29th and 30th Streets, turned 20 on December 5, 2008, with drink specials from 8 a.m., and EV Grieve called it "a fine dump" and toasted 20 more1. So far, so good: it's still at 389 Eighth Avenue, where recent reviewers stop in for shots after a game at Madison Square Garden and find company for darts2.
