Overview

A big budget pool hall with all that entails.
From the transparent acrylic staircase to the 54 foot glass bar this 16,000 square foot pool hall/bar/restaurant/club looks every bit of the $1.5 million spent on its renovation. Unfortunately a lot of money was spent on late night TV ads in the greater New York area so you may end up waiting in line behind a guy with enough wax in his hair to make a candle.

Why you should go

  • A good place to take friends from out of state. They'll think it looks the part of a chic New York pool hall (if you're a local it looks like it belongs in LA.)
  • Despite the trendy pretensions Slate can be reasonably priced. Stop by for lunch and the special is $7 including free pool.

What you should know

  • If you squint just right you can see that the huge sem-transparent staircase is in the shape of a pool triange
  • Somewhat surprisingly, the food is reasonably priced and tasty. The $4 fries or the $9 burger or tuna tacos are good snack options while you shoot.

History

Slick enough to add a slide

Our old headline called Slate about as slick as a pool hall can get, and it kept polishing. The club celebrated its 20th anniversary in February 2020, and owner Telly Hatzigeorgiou put more than $1 million into upgrades, from new lighting to a slide1. It was still hosting events at 54 West 21st Street in March 20262.
